“…Usefulness in disseminated infections in children was later stressed by C hristie [1958] but in view of rather discouraging results in pulmo nary and disseminated forms [e. g., Schwartz, 1954] and while the much more effective drug, amphotericin B, became available, the potential value of sulfonamides in histoplasmosis was almost forgotten, especially in the United States. Reappraisal was suggested, e. g., by Y ates et al [1960], who recommended combining the sulfonamides with amphotericin B. Sulfadiazine was the compound most often used in the earlier trials.…”
