História natural de Tropidurus oreadicus em uma área de cerrado rupestre do Brasil Central

Abstract: Ecological aspects and of the reproductive biology of Tropidurus oreadicus was investigated in a rocky cerrado area in Central Brazil. It was studied the morphometry, the microhabitat use, the activity pattern, the diet and the characteristics of the reproductive biology of T. oreadicus in Cocalzinho-GO, from April to September/2003. They are sexually dimorphic animals, with adult males larger than females. The preferential microhabitat used by the species was the surface of the rocks (saxicolous habit). The s… Show more

“…This diet composition is similar to that of other Tropidurids (colli et al, 1992;Van sluys, 1993;teixeiRa & gioVanelli, 1999;fialHo et al, 2000;faRia & aRaújo, 2004;meiRa et al, 2007). Nevertheless, seasonal variations in diet are expected in species that live in habitats in which local productivity is subject to humidity (janZen & scHoeneR, 1968;ballingeR & ballingeR, 1979) and rainfall cycles (RocHa, 1994;Van sluys, 1995) like the Caatingas (ab'sábeR, 1974).…”

“…However, the relationship between the types of germinative cells and the size of seminiferous tubules showed differences of spermatogenic activity, with all types of germinative cells present, but with regression during February to April (FERREIRA et al, 2009). For T. oreadicus from the Cerrado Biome, spermatogenesis was more intense during the months of June to September, during the dry season (MEIRA et al, 2007;FERREIRA et al, 2011). Another species of the Cerrado, T. montanus, presented reproductive males throughout the year, but in greater proportion from September to January ( VAN SLUYS et al, 2002).…”

“…The determination of Tropidurus oreadicus, a lizard from central region of Brazil, is probably feeding on Tropidurus semitaeniatus, which is widely distributed in the study region, 18 without cytb sequences in the GeneBank though. Some authors 16,19,20 had already evidenced this triatomine behavior, stating that the presence of lizards may help to keep infestations, especially in the absence of warmblooded animals.…”
