Historical trend and drivers of China’s CO2 emissions from 2000 to 2020

Abstract: China is the largest CO 2 emitter in the world and announced that carbon peak and neutral targets will be achieved before 2030 and 2060, respectively. A retrospective analysis of past CO 2 emissions and their drivers is important for the actions of peaking CO 2 emissions before 2030 in China. CO 2 emissions from energy use (coal, oil, and natural gas) and cement production from 2000 to 2020 were calculated first, and th… Show more

“…At the Leaders’ Summit on Climate 2021, 40 countries and organizations announced ambitious updated climate change mitigation targets and discussed innovative pathways to a net-zero economy [ 3 ]. In 2020, China’s carbon emissions were about 10.3 billion tons, and about 7.4 tons per capita [ 4 ]. Responsible for 32% of global carbon emissions, China’s actions in carbon mitigation are vital to achieving the goal of global environmental improvement.…”

“…These perspectives are not independent of each other, and have a certain intersection. For the macroscopic studies, whether or not the spatial characteristics of carbon metabolism are considered, the IPCC emission coefficients-based carbon metabolism accounting method is often used at the provincial, regional, or national level [4,[19][20][21]. This kind of study relies heavily on historical energy consumption data that are usually restricted by administrative units.…”

“…Killing tumor cells without damaging normal tissue through PTT is achieved by making the temperature of tumor or cancerous tissue rise to the range of effective treatment temperature and making use of the difference of temperature tolerance between tumor tissue and normal tissue. [21][22][23] Nano graphene oxide (NGO) is a new type of twodimensional carbon nanomaterials with excellent electrical, optical, mechanical and thermal properties, and is a new photosensitizer material. 24,25 NGO has a high absorption of near-infrared light and high photo-thermal conversion efficiency.…”

“…With the continuous advancement of human industrialization, greenhouse gas emissions are increasing year by year. According to relevant statistics, China 's carbon emissions have increased by nearly three times since the beginning of the 21 st century [1]. Coal combustion, natural gas use, cement production, and agricultural solid waste combustion significantly contribute to CO2 emissions and environmental pollution in various countries [2][3][4][5].…”

“…Coal combustion, natural gas use, cement production, and agricultural solid waste combustion significantly contribute to CO2 emissions and environmental pollution in various countries [2][3][4][5]. To study the environmental impact of cement production, Wei et al [1] conducted a statistical analysis of the CO2 emissions in China. To study the environmental impact of wood combustion, Takaaki et al conducted a statistical analysis in parts of Japan and the United States [6,7].…”
