Abstract:The classical renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a circulating regulatory system for sodium balance, intravascular volume, and therefore blood pressure. There is increasing evidence that local RAS is situated in many organs, including kidney where it is involved in renal development, renal function and the progression of chronic kidney disease. This article briefly reviews the history and new development of RAS and indicates the importance of the research performed by physicians.
