HIV-1 subtype diversity, drug resistance, and genetic transmission networks in men who have sex with men with virologic failure in antiretroviral therapy in Sichuan, China, 2011 to 2017

Abstract: This study sought to examine the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) genetic diversity on drug resistance among men who have sex with men (MSM) with virologic failure in antiretroviral therapy (ART), and investigate linking-associated factors for genetic transmission networks.Seven hundred and thirty-four HIV-positive MSM with virologic failure in ART were recruited into our study from 2011 to 2017. HIV-1 pol gene sequences were used for phylogenetic and genotypic drug resistance analyses. The drug res… Show more

“…The HIV-1 pol sequences obtained in the study, together with reference sequences of different subtypes and CRFs, were edited and aligned using ChromasProl.33, and the sequence alignments were manually performed by BIOEDIT Sequence Alignment Editor software (Ibis Biosciences, Carlsbad, CA, USA). The detailed amplification, sequencing and drug resistance analyses were detailed described previously [22,23].…”

“…The analysis of this step was described in our previous study [20]. By comparing sequences, constructing the phylogenetic tree, calculating the pairwise distance, and visualizing the network, the flow chart of the genetic transmission network was realized.…”
