Holistic Patient Assessment in Simulated Clinical Experiences

Abstract

Nursing care extends beyond physical ailments; it includes holistic components such as the psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and developmental aspects of care. These learning needs are generally met in the traditional clinical environment. However, research findings suggest that opportunities for holistic patient care in simulated clinical environments may be lacking, rendering these environments insufficient to meet nursing students' learning needs. This paper outlines numerous holistic patient care concepts, simulated patient and family responses, props, and moulage that are low-cost and easily implemented in the simulated environment.
