“…The synthesis systems using mixed cationic and nonionic surfactants are versatile in forming highly ordered mesoporous silicas with mesostructures in between 2D-hexagonal and lamellar phases and with unique morphologies. 3,4,29,30 The XRD patterns displayed that although the injection of TEOS alone with a rate of 3.0 ml h − 1 led to a 2D-rectangular MMT-1 material 3 (with unit cell parameters a and b of 10.9 nm and 4.5 nm, respectively), the partial replacement of TEOS by CPTES caused a transformation to a 2D-hexagonal structure ( Figure 1a). In a typical synthesis, TEOS (5.98 mL) was injected to the solution that contained BCDAC (0.74 g), C16E2 (0.26 g), 0.4 M NaOH (21.4 mL), and water (575 mL) at a rate of 7.5 mL h − 1 at 35 o C.
