Hormone Serum Levels and Hormone Receptor Contents of Endometria in Women with Normal Menstrual Cycles and Patients Bearing Endometrial Carcinoma

Abstract: Serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin (HPRL), 17Β-estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) were estimated in 46 subjects with normal menstrual cycles in whom hysterectomies were performed. Estrogen (ER) and progesterone receptor (PgR) levels in endometrial samples of these patients were estimated, and histological dating of the cycle day was carried out. Similarly, hormone serum levels and ER as well as PgR were estimated in 17 patients with endometrial carcinoma. N… Show more

“…Patients with positive axillary lymph nodes received three additional cycles of a CMF chemotherapy regimen (cyclophosphamide 300 mg/m2 i.v.. methotrexate 25 mg/m2 i.v., 5-fluorouracil 1,000 mg/m2 i.v.). For the assessment of the estrogen and progesterone receptor status, we used the DCC method [24], Tumors with estrogen and/or progesterone receptor levels >9 fmol/p.1 cytosol were considered hormone receptor positive. A positive steroid hormone receptor status implied an additional medication with tamoxifen (20 mg daily p.o.)…”

“…The administration of chemotherapy, either intraoperatively or 21 days after the operation, was randomized. The oestrogen and progesterone receptor content was measured by the DCC method [19]. Tumours with either oestrogen and/or progesterone receptor content of > 10 fmol/pg were considered as hormone receptor positive.…”

“…Radioac tivity of the supernatant was measured and specific binding was calculated. Number of binding sites and the affinity was calculated from the saturation data by Scatchard plot analysis [14]. Calculation of cytosol protein was performed by the method of Lowry et at.…”
