Aim: Our aim was early detection of corneal astigmatism in VKC patients by corneal topography and find out its frequency. Material and Method: This is a cross sectional observational study done on 100 patients (200 Eyes), between age group of 5 to 15 years and diagnosed with VKC. Parameters like Flat K, Steep K, and Astigmatism were analysed. Data were compared with age and gender matched control group. Result: Out of 100 patients, 71 were Male and 29 were Female with mean age of presentation 10.36 ± 3.05 years. Average corneal astigmatism in right eye of caseswas1.51 ±0.49 and in control was 0.68± 0.42 (p value, 0.05). Average corneal astigmatism in left eye of cases was 1.49 ±0.49 and in control was 0.69 ±0.44 (p value<0.05). Conclusion:Frequency of corneal astigmatism in VKC patients is more when compared to general population of same age group. All the cases of VKC should undergo corneal topography for early detection of astigmatism and thus to prevent Keratoconus.

Background: Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a relatively rare, chronic form of ocular allergy that can potentially cause severe visual complications.Methods: The present study was carried out amongst the patients suffering from vernal conjunctivitis and attending the Outpatient Department of Ophthalmology of Mata Gujri Memorial Medical College & Lions Seva Kendra Hospital, Kishanganj (Bihar). The conjunctiva and cornea were examined for any complication of the disease. The patients were categorized into two treatment groups, each group treated with one topical drug. As the total number of patients in the study was 100, each treatment group consisted of 50 patients, one group of patients was treated with 0.05% azelastine eye drop and the other group treated with 2% sodium cromoglycate eye drop.Results: Greater incidence during the period from March to June (59%) and the highest number in the month of May (18%). Of the 100 patients in the study group, the largest group of 89 patients presented with limbal vernal conjunctivitis; 7 patients presented with palpebral vernal conjunctivitis and 4 patients suffered from a mixed type (both limbal and palpebral) type of the disease.Conclusions: Examination of the conjunctival biopsy specimens of the patients showed chronic nonspecific inflammatory reaction, mostly confined to the subepithelial region. Patients in both groups showed dramatic results of the treatment proving the efficacy of steroids.

BACKGROUND VKC is one of the most common ocular allergies. This study was undertaken with the objective of studying its clinical profile in the region of Ghaziabad over a period of 1 year. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 cases diagnosed with VKC on the grounds of history and presence of characteristic clinical features from May 2017 to June 2018. Diagnosis was based on detailed history and examination. Visual acuity was recorded on Snellen's chart. Slit lamp biomicroscopy was done to evaluate corneal and conjunctival involvement. RESULTS Majority of cases presented in the age group of 5-15 years with mean age 15.9 years. In the study group, 68% were males and 32% were females, with M: F ratio 2.2:1. 96% cases presented with itching, followed by redness and pain/discomfort (88%). Tarsal papillary hypertrophy (60%) was the commonest sign seen, followed by cobble stone appearance (31%), Horner Trantas dots (29%). History of atopy was present in 32% cases. Palpebral form of VKC was found to be the commonest (54%). 44.82% in mixed pattern of VKC were observed to have corneal involvement. CONCLUSION VKC was found to have a male preponderance over females with maximum number of cases below 15 years of age. Most common complaint was found to be itching and the commonest clinical pattern observed was palpebral form.
