Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) and by the accumulation of misfolded α-synuclein (α-syn) in Lewy bodies.
