“…The artifacts examined in this study derive from an expansive survey of 748 residential features, rock cairns, heiau (temples), and surface scatters of lithics and shell midden. A total of 57 features in five ahupuaʻa were selected for archaeological excavation and analyses of site architecture, material remains, and radiocarbon dates (Field et al, 2010a; Field et al, 2011; Kahn, 2014; Kirch et al, 2012).
