Daily home BNP monitoring in heart failure for prediction of impending clinical deterioration: results from the HOME HF study

Consistent with the previously published HABIT trial, our results confirm that a routine HF population can readily and safely measure and transmit BNP values from home . Furthermore, our data confirm significant dispersion of a subject's BNP values increasing with widening monitoring intervals, an important observation providing insight into the natural history and unstable nature of the HF syndrome.…”

“…Overall, the HOME study agrees qualitatively with the HABIT study which reported a hazard ratio of 1.87 (95% CI 1.44–2.42) per unit change in log BNP. Acute rises in BNP were also examined in the HOME study and were found to be non‐significant, consistent with the HFrEF subjects in the HABIT study . These data provide further insight into how community NP monitoring might be of clinical value, even in the setting where its use to guide therapy in stable patients remains unproven.…”
