Rewriting in role emerged out of the necessity to make sense of multiple versions of the same event and create a coherent narrative. It became, however, a vital experimental method that challenges the authoritative voice, aligns with critical pedagogy, and invites the reader into a dynamic discourse. This methodological innovation is akin to performative ethnography, factionalization, writing as inquiry, and others; rewriting in role is a deliberate and transparent process of rewriting existing data through fictional characters. It generated an entertaining, juicy, and embodied rendering of events to stage and analyze research, not as inert knowing but as active questioning.
