Digitalisation increasingly offers numerous opportunities for firms to integrate several environmental management practices into their day‐to‐day operations. Studies in the field of digital technology and circular economy (CE) have pointed out inherent tensions involved in the adoption of technology and CE practices. Firms often prioritise competing goals and prefer one over another, thereby underestimating their interdependent co‐existing relationships. In this context, the study addresses the following research questions: How does digital orientation facilitate digital eco‐innovation for CE‐linked sustainable development goals (SDGs)? What paradoxes do firms encounter while using digital eco‐innovation for CE‐linked SDG practices? What possible strategies could be used to overcome the various paradoxes associated with adopting digital eco‐innovation for CE‐linked SDG practices?Drawing from the paradox theory and using the SAP‐LAP model of inquiry, the study addresses research questions by applying a case study approach. The findings of a qualitative case study provide a novel perspective on digital eco‐innovation and CE literature. Unlike previous studies that deal with digital eco‐innovation and CE independently, the study primarily contributes to the literature by understanding how digital orientation contributes to digital eco‐innovation and the role of digital eco‐innovation in CE practices in the context of SDGs.

Purpose Using perspectives from the technology affordance and social capital theories, this study aims to unpack the process through which platform-enabled co-development unfolds in supply chain contexts. Specifically, it explores how innovation outcomes can be fostered through platform affordances and supply chain relationship (SCR) capital. Design/methodology/approach The paper integrates literature on digital platforms, SCRs and co-development to produce an integrative framework, developing propositions on the relationships among digital platforms, SCR capital and innovation outcomes. Findings The authors identify affordances for distinctive strategic use of platforms: value co-creation, relationship building and strategic learning. The authors discuss ways in which each affordance contributes to the advances in SCR capital, thus altogether enabling focal firms to orchestrate and integrate internal and external resources to attain incremental and radical innovation. Research limitations/implications Based on the proposed research framework, further empirical studies can use quantitative data to measure the relationship between affordances and SCR capital and use longitudinal case studies to explore how affordances and SCR capital evolve to provide more fine-grained and contextualised information in different research settings. Originality/value This paper sheds light on how the relation between the adoption of digital platforms and SCR capital shapes digitally enabled service co-development. The authors provide an alternative explanation of resource integration in platform-mediated supply chain contexts and enrich the related literature on how digital platforms can maximise value from introducing ambidextrous innovation by leveraging internal and external resources.

Research on the relationship between digitalization and firm performance has grown exponentially over the past decade. However, most studies in this area have concentrated on large firms, focusing on IT capabilities in developed markets. The exploration of how digitalization drives sustainable competitive performance in emerging SMEs remains a largely uncharted territory. Specifically, the mechanisms through which digital strategy enhances digital capability and, in turn, leads to sustainable competitive performance in manufacturing SMEs, have received limited attention. To bridge this gap and contribute to the literature, we conducted a survey involving 376 manufacturing SMEs and employed SPSS.25 and AMOS.24 for data analysis. Our results indicate that digital strategy positively influences the sustainable competitive performance of manufacturing SMEs, with this relationship being partially mediated by digital capability. Additionally, we found that digital culture plays a reinforcing role in the connection between digital strategy and digital capability. This study contributes to the literature on dynamic capability by highlighting the significance of digital strategy and digital culture as antecedents to sustainable competitive performance, with digital capability acting as an intervening variable for manufacturing SMEs. The findings show that SMEs should promote digital culture and strategies that in turn enhance their digital capability and sustainable competitive performance in the dynamic markets.
