How does emersion time affect embryos of coastal marine invertebrate species? Biochemical responses of three porcelain crabs from the Southeastern Pacific

Abstract

Decapods are among the most diverse taxonomic groups of Crustacea (Thiel & Watling, 2015). Most decapods inhabit subtidal ecosystems where environmental variables, such as temperature, oxygen availability, pH, and salinity, fluctuate less than in intertidal areas, allowing the predominance of aerobic species (Atkinson & Taylor, 2005;Munari, 2008;Whiteley & Taylor, 2015). Evolutionary studies have shown that biotic interactions (i.e., predation and competition) and key environmental parameters (such as temperature, salinity, pH, and food availability) have allowed crustaceans to progressively adapt to and colonize a wide range of environments, in addition to
