How does porosity heterogeneity affect the transport properties of multibore filtration membranes?

Abstract: The prediction of pressure and flow distributions inside porous membranes is important if the geometry deviates from singlebore tubular geometries. This task remains challenging, especially when considering local porosity variations caused by lumenand shell-side membrane skins and macro-and micro-void structures, all of them present in multibore membranes. This study analyzes pure water forward and reverse permeation and backwashing phenomena for a polymeric multibore membrane with spatially-varying porosity an… Show more

“…Reservoir heterogeneities can be analyzed in terms of porosity variations in rock. Porosity heterogeneity distribution has been studied by some researchers such as Wypysek, et al, (2021). There are several approaches to quantitatively determine the degree of heterogeneity in reservoirs.…”

“…As previously mentioned, the difference in the pressure between the inside and outside of the membrane is an important factor that affects membrane filtration performance [36]; therefore, a high transmembrane pressure difference is very beneficial for the membrane filtration process [37]. If the pressure inside the membrane is kept constant, it is beneficial to increase the pressure on the membrane surface.…”

“…The experimental gas flow rate is 2–4 L/min, combined with the specifications of the hollow fiber membrane contactor, the laminar flow interface is selected in the hydrodynamic model, and the gas flow in the shell can be expressed as the following formula 18 : ρnormalgvgtrue→vgtrue→=pnormalg+ηnormalgvgtrue→+truevnormalgT, ηnormalgvgtrue→+truevnormalgT=σ. …”
