How to assess a company’s open innovation situation?

Abstract: Open Innovation (OI) supports companies in systematically collaborating with external partners, offering various advantages. However, companies still face several challenges when applying OI, e.g., identifying relevant OI partners, collaboration methods, and project risks. Often, insufficient planning is the reason for subsequent deficits in OI projects. The analysis of relevant context factors ('situation') is important, which affect and constrain OI. To date, a general approach for analyzing (open) innovatio… Show more

“…Another critical aspect of a successful method application are data collection mechanisms since they affect, for instance, the effort and the quality of the collected and processed data ("nonsense in, nonsense out"), and the overall cost-benefit ratio of a method (Guertler et al, 2016). Thus, this research enhances the acceptance barrier framework of Albers et al (2012) by an additional data collection dimension, as illustrated in Figure 1.…”

“…Therefore, these barriers are analysed concerning inherent requirements and rules of method design. In addition, the barrier framework of Albers et al (2012) is adapted and extended by a new dimension focussing on the data collection mechanisms of design methods (Figure 1), based on insights from Guertler et al (2016). The derived method requirement framework serves as conceptual basis for the subsequent empirical requirement analysis.…”

“…Further, the research [38] involving successful PSS cases from a CE perspective on the market in a traditional manufacturing sector has high potential to boost future practical research in a similar setting. The importance of the context and situation of a company is also acknowledged for open innovation [55]. Impact in the opposite direction, i.e., the influence of PSS design on internal and external changes in innovation management, is also reported [56].…”

“…De otra parte Guertler [12], evidencia que la implementación de modelo de innovación colaborativo y abierta, implica entre otros factores los siguientes: a) personal / funcionarios, b) gobernabilidad, c) recursos, d) gestión de procesos, e) liderazgo y f) cultura, lo que implica un proceso de planeación del proceso incluido socios (proveedores de conocimiento), modelos de colaboración, establecer limitación y en general responder a interrogantes como: cómo hacerlo? cuándo?…”
