How to Measure the Internal Forces of a Combustion Engine

Abstract: It has become increasingly important to reduce the powertrain vibration which mainly affects the interior noise of vehicle during acceleration. In the past a number of studies were made based on indirect methods including a calculation using measured values of vibration and an identification by means of an FRF. This paper reports on a new direct method for defining the load direction and values obtain from strain gauges attached to each main bearing journal of the powertrain.
