How Will COVID-19 Change Forestry Education? A Study of US Forest Operations Instructors

Abstract: The COVID-19 (COVID) pandemic affected nearly every aspect of higher education. It has been particularly disruptive to forest operations courses that rely heavily on field experiences. Dodson and Blinn (2021) surveyed US forest operations instructors at four-year institutions granting SAF-accredited forestry degrees to understand how they rapidly modified courses during spring 2020 to accommodate a move to fully remote instruction. Through an online survey and interviews, a follow-up study was conducted to und… Show more

“…As a result, there were 11 methods including 10 proposed methods (5 places and 2 interpolation methods) and 1 baseline method in the experiments. We used the bandlimited resampling class in torchaudio 8 and the linear interpolation function of pytorch 9 as the implementations. For the WSOLA algorithm we used audiotsm 10 package as the implementation.…”

“…Since speaking rate changes speech intelligibility and accessibility, users may need different speaking rates depending on the situation. For instance, a high speaking rate may be needed by visually-impaired people [6,7] and students who take online courses [8] since they are used to listening to speech with a higher speed. Instead, people who are in an environment with high reverberation [9] or people who have aphasia [10] and elderly adults [11,12] may need a low speaking rate to understand the content of speech.…”

“…Expanding skill sets and digital resources for instructors, pedagogical modifications, and appreciation of field experience will have a positive impact (Dodson & Blinn, 2022). 9 Application of virtual learning during disaster situations is especially appropriate (Sprague et al, 2022) There needs to be significant & ecologically wise human intervention on a fact-based, normative, & pluralist approach to environmental education (Guerra et al, 2023).…”
