hsa-miR-607, lncRNA TUG1 and hsa_circ_0071106 can be combined as biomarkers in type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial disorder that leads to alterations in gene regulation. ncRNAs have the characteristics of tissue specificity, disease specificity, timing specificity, high stability and post transcriptional regulation effect. These preconditions are more conducive to promote ncRNA to become a new biomarker for clinical diagnosis. Our study aims to explore the relationship between circRNA, lncRNA, miRNA and T2DM, and to evaluate their diagnostic value for T2DM. A total of 101… Show more

“…As previously reported, increased lncRNA HOTAIR reduced inflammatory factor levels and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in mouse, thereby alleviating chronic HF 12 . LncRNA taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) was a well‐studied lncRNA in several diseases including pancreatic cancer and diabetes mellitus 13,14 . In chronic HF, TUG1 was found to be abnormally elevated, 15 indicating that it plays a role in HF.…”

“…12 LncRNA taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) was a well-studied ln-cRNA in several diseases including pancreatic cancer and diabetes mellitus. 13,14 In chronic HF, TUG1 was found to be abnormally elevated, 15 indicating that it plays a role in HF. TUG1 has also been shown to regulate cell apoptosis and autophagy in ischemia-reperfusion myocardial injury.…”

“…For instance, increased lncRNA LINC01173 was associated with hypertension, wound healing, and the blurred vision of T2DM patients, especially in vitamin-D deficient patients [23]. lncRNA TUG1 was upregulated in T2DM, which could diagnose T2DM patients, and its combination with miR-607 and circ-0071106 significantly improved the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity [24]. LINC01018 was also confirmed as an upregulated lncRNA in the plasma of T2DM patients in comparison with healthy individuals, which showed great diagnostic potential with relatively high sensitivity and specificity.…”

“…However, combining these markers improved diagnostic accuracy, achieving an AUC of 0.798, 100.0 % precision and 75.2 % tolerance. Peripheral blood levels of these ncRNAs hold promise for clinical T2DM diagnosis ( Gao et al, 2022 , Su et al, 2022a , Su et al, 2022b ). MEG3 is a significant lncRNA implicated in diverse cellular processes.…”

“…Its roles include DNA repair, inflammation modulation, and metabolic homeostasis through interactions with transcription factors and epigenetic modifiers ( Spinetti et al, 2020 , Shi et al, 2022 ). SIRT1′s involvement in these pathways positions it as a potential healing target for diverse conditions, like metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and age-related ailments ( Su et al, 2022a , Su et al, 2022b ). Zhang et al investigated the TUG1/miR-204/SIRT1 axis's role in obesity-related diabetes.…”
