Hsp90 interaction with Cdc2 and Plo1 kinases contributes to actomyosin ring condensation in fission yeast

Abstract: In Schizosaccharomyces pombe, cytokinesis occurs by ordered recruitment of actomyosin components at the division site, followed by lateral condensation to produce a ring-like structure early in anaphase, which eventually matures and contracts at the end of mitosis. We found that in temperature-sensitive hsp90-w1 mutant cells, encoding an Hsp90 mutant protein, ring components were recruited to form a cortical network at the division site, but this network failed to condense into a compact ring, suggesting a rol… Show more

“…They include such putative targets as Hsp90, Wos2, Rad24, and Clp1/Flp1. Hsp90 and its cochaperone Wos2 regulate cell cycle progression and actomyosin ring assembly during cytokinesis , while Rad24 and Cdc14 regulate G2/M transition . It is also possible that some PP2A targets responsible for its ability to regulate cell cycle and morphogenesis might be below the detection threshold of the 2D‐DIGE and MS analysis techniques used in our work.…”

“…Inhibition of Hsp90 function results in the cell cycle arrest in G2/M 62 . Recently, Hsp90 was found to play a role in cytokinesis in fission yeast and African trypanosomes 63,64 . However, whether Hsp90 is required for cytokinesis in mammalian cells is largely unknown.…”
