The competence of the medical record work unit manager has an impact on the management of the work unit. There are still managers of medical record work units who do not have a medical record educational background so they do not meet the standards competently. This study aims to determine the effect of the competence of the head of the medical record work unit on the performance of the medical record unit and health information in hospitals. This type of research is descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional study approach. The population in this study were 113 managers of medical record units at regional hospitals in South Sulawesi and the sampling technique used was convenience sampling. The results showed that the competency variable had a significant relationship with the medical record unit performance variable. Then the results of the simple linear regression test show that there is a significant influence between the competence of the work unit manager on the performance of the medical record unit in the hospital. Hospital management needs to provide training to improve the competence of medical record work unit managers based on national hospital accreditation standards.
