Huge Broad Ligament Leiomyoma: A Case Report

Abstract: The broad ligament is the commonest extra uterine site for the occurrence of leiomyoma but with a very low incidence rate. Because of its overall low incidence rate, it poses both clinical and radiological difficulty in differentiating with an ovarian tumour. We report a case of a 31-year-old unmarried nullipara (para 0 + 0) who presented with 12-month history of progressive abdominal swelling, three-month history of pelvic pain and one-month history of prolonged heavy menstrual flow. Examination of the abdome… Show more

“…Because of its overall low incidence rate, it poses both clinical and radiological difficulty in differentiating with an ovarian tumor. [ 1 ] Clinically, broad ligament fibroids may manifest as extrauterine pelvic masses that compress the urethra, bladder neck, or ureter producing symptoms of varying degrees of urinary outflow obstruction. Studies have shown that round ligament is the guiding factor to go in the anatomical plane in cases of huge fibroids and guides us for further surgery.…”

“…[1] It is the most common solid tumour of the broad ligament, but incidence of broad ligament fibroid is less than 1%. [2] On account of its rarity, it poses specific diagnostic difficulties and may be responsible for erroneous diagnosis and management. [3] Here, we present a rare case of huge broad ligament fibroid mimicking ovarian tumour creating diagnostic difficulties.…”
