Human-centric Faceted Approach for Ontology Construction

Abstract: In this paper, we propose an ontology building method, called human-centric faceted approach for ontology construction (HCFOC). HCFOC uses the human-centric approach, improvised with the idea of selective dissemination of information (SDI), to deal with context. Further, this ontology construction process makes use of facet analysis and an analytico-synthetic classification approach. This novel fusion contributes to the originality of HCFOC and distinguishes it from other existing ontology construction methodo… Show more

“…The following steps have been undertaken to build our formal ontological model. These steps are inspired originally from Ranganathan (1937) principle of faceted analysis as well as those provided by Giunchiglia et al (2012Giunchiglia et al ( , 2014, Ghosh et al (2020) and has been combined with OntoClean methodology by Guarino & Welty (2002).…”

“…The ontology was implemented in the graph database GraphDB (https://www.ontotext.com/products/graphdb/). The motivation behind using GraphDB is the fact that use of semantic graph databases enhances capability of data relationship exploration and analysis (Naskar and Das, 2019; Ghosh et al ., 2020). In Figure 1, a visualization of the ontology has been displayed that has been developed using the Protégé plugin OntoGraf (https://github.com/protegeproject/ontograf).…”
