Human-Computer Interaction on Touch Screen Tablets for Highly Interactive Computational Simulations

Abstract: Touch-screen tablet computers are emerging as a popular platform for many applications, including those in learning and model demonstration and parameter exploration. The human-computer interaction (HCI) mechanisms and potential of such devices make them attractive for highly interactive simulations. We have implemented a number of simulation models including: the Ising model of magnetism; di↵usion models; Conway's Game of Life and variants of it; and other cellular automata models. We show how the touch scree… Show more

“…Interaction with the hardware via stylus pens, which enables writing in 'digital ink', has become an important feature in the use of tablets and has fostered new pedagogical approaches (Maclaren, 2014). Other beneficial aspects include the ability to install and operate software applications, or 'Apps' (Preez et al, 2012), and the incorporation of wireless internet capability which allows students to access and submit learning tasks online from a greater variety of locations (Smith & Cline, 2011;Anderson et al, 2013;Goh et al, 2013). Online submission of assessment tasks can also significantly expedite exam marking (Banitsas et al, 2010;Bloomfield, 2010).…”

“…Stamping processing complete set of line control system mainly involves three aspects:one is to develop a mechanical manipulator with the characteristic of the high-speed and dynamic transmission; the second is the design of the double open buttress unit, which is used for materials to be up-down by automatic; the third is the automatic control and simulation monitoring of the complete set of line equipments [2][3] . Taking three stations of gantry type of single point high-performance press as the research object, using rectangular or circular metal sheet as stock, using two shafts of independent manipulator for loading and unloading and include all materials' conveyer system between machines, based on these we carried out the key technology research of the sheet metal's stamping processing complete set of control line system.…”
