Rapid detection of marine oil spills is becoming increasingly critical in the face of frequent marine oil spills. Oil slick thickness measurement is critical in the hazard assessment of such oil leaks. As surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors are sensitive to slight changes in refractive index, they can monitor offshore oil spills arising from significant differences in the refractive index between oil and water. This study presents a gold-film fiber-optic surface plasmon resonance (FOSPR) sensor prepared by polydopamine accelerated wet chemical plating for rapid and real-time measurement of oil slick thickness. We examined oil thickness detection at two interfaces, namely, water-oil and air-oil. Detection sensitivity of −1.373%/mm is obtained at the water-oil interface in the thickness range of 0–5 mm; detection sensitivity of −2.742%/mm is obtained at the air-oil interface in the thickness range of 0–10 mm. Temperature and salinity present negligible effects on the oil slick thickness measurement. The fabricated FOSPR sensor has the ability to detect the presence of oil as well as quantify the oil thickness. It has favorable repeatability and reusability, demonstrating the significant potential for use in the estimation of marine oil slick thickness.

Efficiently cleaning up high-viscosity crude oil spills is still a serious global problem. In this paper, a composite filler PPy-polydopamine/BN (PPB) with high photothermal effect and high thermal conductivity was first prepared. Then the polyurethane sponge is decorated with polydimethylsiloxane and PPB to obtain a solar-assisted isotropically thermoconductive adsorbent (PPB@PU), which exhibits remarkable stability and durable mechanical properties. Meanwhile, the PPB@PU sponge has good thermal conductivity, and its surface temperature rises to 91 C in just 1 min under irradiation (1 sun). Therefore, the PPB@PU sponge can quickly heat and adsorb the crude oil contacted by the surface, significantly speed up the crude oil recovery process, and the adsorption capacity is as high as about 45 g/g. Finally, the oil adsorption method of the three-dimensional adsorbent is demonstrated, which provides a new idea for the subsequent development of advanced oil spill adsorbent.

Over the past few decades, the number of liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships and terminals has been increasing, playing an important role in global clean energy transportation. However, the traffic capacity of LNG shipping in port areas is limited because of its high safety requirements. In view of this problem, a novel model is proposed to study the ship traffic in a port area by combining cellular automaton (CA) and multi-agent methods. Taking the CNOOC Tianjin LNG Terminal as an example, the ship traffic in Tianjin Port is simulated. Based on the simulation results, the LNG ship traffic capacity and its impact on the general shipping traffic flow under different special traffic rules are obtained. This model can provide theoretical support for optimising the port traffic organisation for LNG ships.
