Abstract:Objective: Degeneration of motor endplates (MEPs) in denervated muscle is thought to be a key factor limiting functional regeneration after peripheral nerve injury (PNI) in humans. However, there is currently no paradigm to determine MEP status in denervated human muscle to estimate likelihood of reinnervation success. Here, we present a quantitative analysis of MEP status in biopsies of denervated muscles taken during nerve repair surgery and ensuing functional recovery. Methods: This is a retrospective singl… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
