In this study, it was aimed to investigate the decision processes of preservice primary school teachers (PPSTs) related to genetic-based socioscientific discussions in terms of human rights. In this context, in the study, it was focused on the birth of gifted people with genetic technology, the use of genetic tests in the process of getting health insurance, and gender selection by the PGD method. The study was carried out as a descriptive study in the screening model with 203 PPSTs studying at the fourth grade in three faculties of education in the Southeastern Anatolia region in Turkey. In the study, the data were collected with the Evaluation Form for Decision Processes related to Genetic-based Socioscientific Discussions. Research data were analyzed by content analysis. The results of the study indicated that PPSTs used different decision processes in genetic-based socioscientific discussions and based these decision processes on different justifications. Furthermore, they also revealed that PPSTs largely made decisions that were unrelated to human rights in genetic-based socioscientific discussions. However, they could usually make accurate inferences when they made human rights-based decisions. This study is important in terms of providing information on how PPSTs' decision processes related to genetic-based socioscientific discussions are shaped and on how human rights are employed in this process.

Environmental Orientation for Art Teachers Education Program (EOATEP)

The study aimed to identify the level of environmental orientation for the Art Education Teacher Preparation Program at Sultan Qaboos University from the point of view of student teachers participating in the program. To accomplish the objectives of the research, an analytical descriptive method was used, and a questionnaire prepared for this purpose was distributed to a sample of ( 106) male and female students, representing 50.2% of the total population of the study. The results showed that the student teachers' estimates of the level of environmental orientation of the program as a whole were (moderate), with an arithmetic mean (2.9/4.00). Concerning the dimension of teachers' practices of environmental orientation during teaching, it was (high). In contrast, the level of environmental orientation for the course content was (moderate) with a mean of (2.73/4.00). The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the estimates of student teachers for the level of environmental orientation on any of the two dimensions due to the variables (gender, cumulative degree).

Building STEM Skills Through Environmental Education

This chapter reports features of a professional development (PD) initiative and results from its underpinning qualitative inquiry. The researchers designed this initiative using the integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education framework to help teachers adapt integrated teaching practices and to make connections. Middle and secondary teachers completed 50 hours of training to enhance their content knowledge, to gain understanding of integrated STEM education, to identify and use resources and manipulatives of integrate STEM lessons, and to create lessons for implementation with their students. Data were collected through interviews, audio-visual recordings, and documents from participants. The findings were (1) framing the PD with the integrated STEM education model supports changes to teaching practices; (2) tasks integrating mathematics with EE are compatible integrations that help teachers adapt integrative teaching approaches; and (3) teachers' EE dispositions towards integration improved after the PD, especially as a component of social justice.
