This empirical study analyzes the relationship between economic growth, unemployment and poverty at provincial level in Vietnam. The study is conducted on a sample of 245 year observations in 63 Vietnam provinces for the period of 2012-2015. The research results show that: Firstly, public investment has a positive impact on economic growth. Secondly, poverty, and export & import have a negative impact on unemployment. Thirdly, public investment has a significant and positive impact on unemployment. Fourthly, unemployment; export & import; and public investment have a negative impact on poverty. On the basis of our findings, we suggest 03 groups of recommendations for sustainable economic growth, poverty reduction, and unemployment reduction of Vietnam provinces.

High population growth could be a serious barrier to regional economic development. In general, if productivity in each sector of the economy is very low, there will be a high unemployment level in that society. The purpose of this study is to analyze the partial and simultaneous influences of population, labor, unemployment, and poverty on economic growth. The type of data used is panel statistic data from 11 regencies and municipality in Sulawesi Tengah province of Indonesia during the 2011-2019 period with 99 observations. The regression model with fixed effect approach was used to analyze the data panel. The results reveal that labor and unemployment do not significantly affect economic growth, whereas population and poverty significantly affect economic growth in positive and negative ways, respectively. The partial results of the test imply that the increase in population must be coherently supported by the specialization of the workforce through an increase in the length of school each individual. These implications can be realized through the construction of educational infrastructure. Poverty reduction can be implemented through the improvement of the education level of the people. It is expected that good education will generate more new experts to increase industrial productivity, which in turn will increase the output

Interrogating sub‐Saharan Africa's high economic growth rate and low poverty reduction rate: A poverty paradox?

Sub-Saharan Africa's (SSA) high economic growth coincides with an increase in the level of poverty. In a panel of 40 SSA countries over a 30-year period, while accounting for the potential spillover effect of poverty in the region. The study found that economic growth recorded over the years has not translated to poverty reduction, particularly, in resource-rich economies of SSA. The result also shows that income inequality worsens the effect of economic growth on poverty and that the povertyreducing effectiveness of growth varies considerably across sectors, across space, and over time. The research findings suggest that governments across the region, particularly, in oil-exporting countries in SSA must diversify the economy away from oil (toward the service sector) to reduce poverty in the region.
