“…The GT biopsy designated for MSC culture (GT‐MSCs) and the analogous disease‐free specimen of gingival connective tissue (G‐MSCs) were enzymatically digested as described previously, seeded in 25 cm 2 flasks, expanded at 37°C in 5% CO 2 in alpha‐minimum essential medium (Life Technologies, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Paisley, UK) supplemented with 15% fetal bovine serum (Life Technologies), 100 units/mL of penicillin, 100 mg/mL of streptomycin and 0.25 mg/mL of amphotericin‐B (all from Life Technologies). GT‐MSCs and G‐MSCs were characterized by mesenchymal (CD90, CD73, CD146, CD271, STRO‐1), endothelial (CD105, CD106), hematopoietic (CD34, CD45) and embryonic (SSEA‐4) SC‐markers at passage 2 by flow cytometry, using a Guava ® easyCyte‐8HT Benchtop Flow Cytometer (Merck Millipore, Billerica, MA, USA) . A total of 50 000 events were acquired per sample.…”

“…It can also be observed that by doping the glass, it is possible to improve cell response and to tailor the material to provoke a specific effect. For example, Cu was added to trigger angiogenesis, Li, or Sr to activate the wnt /β‐catenin canonical pathway, Zn was proved to play an active role in sustaining and promoting dental pulp regeneration, Mg seems to ensure a real improvement of cells proliferation especially when it is incorporated in bioscaffolds, Zr has high corrosion resistance and a remarkable ability for being bonded directly to the bone (a property called osteointegration) and providing biocompatibility and antiallergenic properties, and magnetic Fe was used to improve several cellular aspects such as adhesion, proliferation and differentiation.…”

“…Nevertheless, the utility of dentin‐based biomaterials in tooth root and bone regeneration has been demonstrated by independent laboratories (Bakopoulou et al, ; Kamal et al, ; Koga et al, ; Smith et al, ). In the future, it is expected that TDM will be used in a commercial biomaterial preparation, similar to demineralized bone matrix.…”
