Humeral Head Fracture in a 14-Year Old Dodgeball Player

Abstract

HisTORY: A 28-year-old professional ballet dancer had insidious onsets of deep pain over postero-lateral corner of left knee for 8 years. She could continue with normal practice and performance, but suffered from pain when doing squatting and kneeling. Pain spread to her low back when intensity of training and performance increase. Conventional physiotherapy and acupuncture failed to reduce her pain.PHYsCial eXaMinaTiOn: Squatting and kneeling elicited considerable amount of deep pain over the postero-lateral corner of patient's left knee. Palpation over the origin of the lateral head of the gastroncemius and the insertion of the hamstrings revealed comparable pain, even though she could achieve full range of knee movement with good muscle strength. Lachman test indicated mild increase in joint laxity, but patient did not complained of any instability feeling during daily activities or dancing. diFFeRenTial diaGnOsis:
