Hybrid ARQ Scheme with Autonomous Retransmission for Multicasting in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: A new hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) scheme for multicast service for wireless sensor networks is proposed in this study. In the proposed algorithm, the HARQ operation is combined with an autonomous retransmission method that ensure a data packet is transmitted irrespective of whether or not the packet is successfully decoded at the receivers. The optimal number of autonomous retransmissions is determined to ensure maximum spectral efficiency, and a practical method that adjusts the number of autonomou… Show more

“…In both cases, a larger PER value imposes adverse affects on the achieved system throughput. The throughput for cooperative CR networks (10) and general wireless systems with optimum energy allocation (11), is given in [113], [116], respectively. The throughput increases with a larger code rate and less number of transmissions.…”

“…To cope with these limitations, the packet loss or delay rate QoS parameters as well as the observed QoS at the receiver are proposed to be used in Mixed Mode to decide whether ACK, NACK or no feedback shall be sent for an erroneously received transport block. Among the different solutions to optimize HARQ for multicast, [24] studies an optimal number of autonomous retransmissions based on limited feedback from the UEs, so that the automatic retransmission of a packet is done in a predetermined number without ACK/NACK feedback. Furthermore, assuming that the users receiving IP multicast traffic are mainly interested in the QoS, the receiver NACK can be sent only if the received data is not going to meet the target QoS.…”
