Hybrid Copper–Silver Conductive Tracks for Enhanced Oxidation Resistance under Flash Light Sintering

Abstract: We developed a simple method to prepare hybrid copper-silver conductive tracks under flash light sintering. The developed metal nanoparticle-based ink is convenient because its preparation process is free of any tedious washing steps. The inks were composed of commercially available copper nanoparticles which were mixed with formic acid, silver nitrate, and diethylene glycol. The role of formic acid is to remove the native copper oxide layer on the surface of the copper nanoparticles. In this way, it facilitat… Show more

“…The poor performance of the IPL treatment is attributed to the emission spectrum from the xenon light source that was characterized in a previous study. 17 The present xenon flash lamp lacks emission components in the strongest UV light biocidal range of 100–280 nm, known as the UVC range. UVC irradiation, when absorbed by cells or microbe's DNA or RNA, induces damage or mutation mediated by the generation of free radical species.…”

“…A mixed ink containing formic acid-treated Cu nanoparticles and Ag nitrate (F-CuAg ink) was proposed for IPL sintering to reduce the oxidization of the sintered metal film [ 145 ]. The formic acid treatment removed the Cu oxide layer and facilitated the galvanic replacement of Ag nitrate by Cu nanoparticles.…”

“…Transparent substrates or substrates with poorly absorbing light properties can be unaffected, which represents a great advantage for lowtemperature substrates such as polymers. Photonic curing is mainly used with the goal to create homogeneous and compact conductive films from nanoparticles and precursors, such as Cu [15] or Ag, [16] but rarely for separate nanoparticles as applied for analytical and catalytic applications. Recently, Kim and coworkers used metal, metal alloy, and metal oxide precursors on carbonaceous substrates.…”
