Hybrid films of polyetherimide containingin situgrown Ag, Pd, and AgPd alloy nanoparticles: Synthesis route, morphology, and gas transport properties

Abstract: In this study, bimetallic/polymer films are synthesized from polyetherimide (PEI), palladium acetate and silver nitrate for a wide range of total metal amount (from 0 to 30 wt %) and different Ag to Pd molar ratios. Hybrid precursor films are first prepared from polymer/metal complex solutions and the metal nanoparticles are then generated within the PEI matrix by annealing the precursor film under specific conditions. Reference neat PEI films and monometallic films are prepared in the same conditions. Interes… Show more

“…Among the different models depicted in the previous part, Maxwell law is one of the most used models when focusing on polymer matrices loaded with spherical phases and considering ϕ d below 0.3 . Simplified Maxwell law (eq ) has been shown to accurately describe the transport properties of a wide range of polymers filled with spherical inorganic particles such as precipitated calcium carbonate fillers, metal nanofillers . This law permits to describe the impact of dispersed domains with very different sizes (from a few tens of nanometers to a few hundred micrometers).…”

“…To take into account the specific effect of the interface in PLA/PCC‐P nanocomposites, Maxwell law was slightly modified. This modified equation was already used to discuss interfacial effects in polymer/metal nanocomposites prepared from in situ generation routes PP0=1ϕnormald1+δtrue(ϕnormald2true) …”

“…The in situ method is an alternative way to prepare nanocomposites [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ]. In that case, a metal precursor is usually dissolved in a polymer solution.…”

“…The most common way consists of using an external reducing agent [ 4 , 6 , 20 , 23 ], such as sodium borohydrate as an example. Thermal annealing or UV-irradiation have also been reported as efficient ways to obtain polymer-embedded metal nanoparticles for some polymer/metal complex systems [ 3 , 18 , 19 , 21 , 22 , 24 , 25 ]. The in situ generation route generally allows avoiding nanofiller aggregation.…”
