Hybrid Joint-Transmission Multi-Point Coordination for Inter-Cell Interference Management

Abstract: In wireless networks, the transmission efficiency is highly impacted by attenuations such as: path-loss, shadowing, multi-path fading and interference. At cell edges, mobiles are far from their access point and close to neighboring cells, leading to high path-loss and high magnitude of interference. Consequently, ensuring high spectral efficiency is necessary to guarantee an appropriate Quality of Service (QoS), especially at edges. To cope with this crucial issue, this work investigates the benefits of the Jo… Show more

“…This cooperative approach contrasts starkly with traditional cellular networks, where each base station independently serves its designated users. JT-CoMP harnesses the spatial diversity of massive MIMO to ensure that users experience enhanced signal quality, higher data rates, and consistent connectivity, even at the cell edges [36,37]. One of the primary advantages of JT-CoMP is its capability to effectively mitigate interference.…”

“…Instead of integrating Urban Micro (UMi) Street Canyon channel model from 3GPP specification that considers many factors, we use the one detailed in [17]. It is simpler to implement and will allow to take into account the possible interference on a device, when two antennas are transmitting on the same frequency.…”

“…It is assumed that during this time no interference links (including access and backhaul links) are broken or established. As in [17], we use Shannon's formula to calculate the spectral efficiency of the UE, i.e. the number of bits it is able to receive taking into account the radio conditions.…”

“…The aim research in this paper revolves around opportunistic scheduling algorithms. Indeed, these algorithms based on schedulers give a priority to users having a relatively favorable channel state and with the aim of optimizing the allocation of radio resources [12], [13] [16], [17], [18] [23], [24].…”
