Abstract:Finding a local minimizer in unconstrained nonlinear optimization and a fixed point of a gradient system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are two closely related problems. Quasi-Newton algorithms are widely used in unconstrained nonlinear optimization while Runge-Kutta methods are widely used for the numerical integration of ODEs. In this thesis, hybrid algorithms combining low-order implicit Runge-Kutta methods for gradient systems and quasi-Newton type updates of the Jacobian matrix such as the BFGS… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
