“…The remaining ethoxy groups following the Stöber reaction of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) can clearly be observed in the FTIR spectra of the SiO 2 particles, that is, the CH 2 /CH 3 bending absorbance band at 1452 cm –1 and the CH 2 /CH 3 absorbance band at 2980 cm –1 . Following hydrolysis to obtain SiO 2 NPs with surface −OH functionalities (SiO 2 -OH), these absorbance bands disappeared, which indicates quantitative hydrolysis of the ethoxy groups .
