Hybrid simulation of a carbon fibre–reinforced polymer-strengthened continuous reinforced concrete girder bridge

Abstract: The behaviour of bridge columns strengthened using carbon fibre–reinforced polymer composites has been studied extensively. However, few investigations have been conducted regarding the influence of carbon fibre–reinforced polymer-strengthened columns on the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete continuous girder bridges. This article details the hybrid simulations of a continuous reinforced concrete girder bridge whose columns are strengthened by carbon fibre–reinforced polymer jackets. In the hybrid simul… Show more

“…Many studies have attempted to improve the serviceability of composite beams. Some high-performance concretes with fiberreinforced polymer have been employed in composite beams to prevent the corrosion of steel rebar and improve weather resistance (Tian et al, 2017). In recent years, remarkable progress has been made in the development of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC).…”

“…Second, the analysis accuracy should be definite. Previously, because of the limitations on the computational efficiency of the FE analysis programs, fibre models and macro-scale models were commonly used in hybrid simulations (Castaneda et al , 2015; Saouma et al , 2012; Jiran, 2008; Tian et al , 2017). For instance, Takahashi et al (2008) used the fibre model of OpenSees in an internationally distributed hybrid simulation of a two-span bridge.…”
