Hydrate-Based Mild Separation of Lean-CH4/CO2 Binary Gas at Constant Pressure

Abstract: The product gas of natural gas hydrate production by CO2 replacement is the lean-CH4/CO2 binary gas which contains 85–95% CO2. In this work, the lean-CH4/CO2 (10 mol % CH4/90 mol % CO2) binary mixture was used to simulate the product gas of natural gas hydrate production via CO2 replacement, and a promising and mild (low pressure) hydrate-based gas separation (HBGS) technology was employed. This work innovatively proposes to inject the reaction liquid to maintain the constant pressure of the whole process, whi… Show more

“…Further work should be carried out to reduce toxicity and prolong the THF life cycle. In addition, quaternary ammonium/phosphonium salts (QAS/QPS) like tetra- n -butyl ammonium bromide (TBAB), , tetra- n -butyl ammonium chloride (TBAC), , and tetra- n -butyl phosphonium bromide (TBPB) have been used to form semiclathrate hydrate for CO 2 capture. TBAB semiclathrate has a strong preference for the incorporation of CO 2 molecules, but there remains a large margin for the increase of gas consumption before it is used on the industrial scale .…”

“…A concentration of 5 wt % TBAB can increase the hydration amount of CO 2 and is considered to be the optimal concentration for separating CO 2 . Therefore, 5 wt % TBAB was selected in this study. ,,, In addition, nanofluids and amino acids had been used as promising candidates to effectively improve the heat and mass transfer. For the physical method, mass and heat transfer are enhanced by appropriate mechanical disturbance to change the fluid flow state to increase the gas–liquid interface. At present, the common hydrate reactors included stirring, spraying, , and bubbling reactors. , However, traditional reactors could not satisfy the large-scale hydrate formation and gas separation process.…”
