Hydrate Dissociation Condition Measurement of CO2-Rich Mixed Gas in the Presence of Methanol/Ethylene Glycol and Mixed Methanol/Ethylene Glycol + Electrolyte Aqueous Solution

Abstract: In this work, the hydrate dissociation condition for carbon dioxide rich gas mixture in the presence of methanol, methanol + sodium chloride or calcium chloride, and ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol + sodium chloride or calcium chloride aqueous solution, were measured and reported. The measurements are carried out at temperature and pressure range of (263.85 to 284.75) K and (2.76 to 12.08) MPa. All data were measured using the isochoric pressure search method. In order to exhibit the inhibition effect of abov… Show more

“…Malaysia is among the leading natural gas exporters in the world [8]. The J5 and K5 gas fields located in offshore Eastern Malaysia produces about 70-87 mol% CO 2 content natural gas [9]. This significant amount of CO 2 together with the harsh offshore conditions poses various complications for the exploration and transportation of these enormous reserves.…”

“…Literature data is available for the use of some ionic liquids and QASs including TEAB, TMAB, TMACl, TMAOH, EMPip-Br, EMPip-BF4 and BMIM-BF4 in presence of CO2 for hydrate inhibition. Among imdazolium based ionic liquids, Nasir et al, [37] worked on EMIM-Cl in mixture with monoethylene glycol (MEG) for inhibition of methane hydrates. These compounds have mostly been employed in THI applications.…”

“…The ∆H diss of the systems tested in this study is presented in Table 7. It is well established that CO 2 gas hydrates form structure I hydrates [7,[51][52][53]. The main parameters that alter the dissociation enthalpy of hydrates are the hydrogen bonding of the clathrate structure and the cage occupancy of the guest molecule [54].…”
