Abstract:Occupational heat stress increases the risk of developing kidney injury (KI), which is due to the development of hyperthermia and/or hypohydration. It is speculated that this KI is caused by a relative mismatch in oxygen supply (i.e., reductions in renal perfusion) and demand (due to increased sodium reabsorption) in the renal tubules. That said, the modulatory role of hydration on renal vascular control during physical work in the heat is largely unknown. Recent observations indicate that ad lib drinking larg… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
