Hydrodynamic Characteristics of a Novel Annular Spouted Bed with Multiple Air Nozzles

Abstract: A novel spouted bed, namely, an annular spouted bed with multiple air nozzles, has been proposed for dryness, pyrolysis, and gasification of coal particulates. It consists of two homocentric upright cylinders with some annularly located spouting air nozzles between inner and outer cylinders. Experiments have been performed to study hydrodynamic characteristics of this device. The test materials studied are ash particle, soy bean, and black bean. Three distinct spouting stages have been examined and outlined wi… Show more

“…To overcome this issue, the alignment of several interconnected chambers in parallel holds much promise for scaling up capacity. Several experimental and numerical reports have investigated the scale‐up of other types of spouting apparatus, such as the multiple spouted bed with multiple spouting inlet, the annular spouted bed with multiple air nozzles, the conically spouted bed, flat‐bottom spouted bed, and the slot‐rectangular spouted bed . Although these reports did not focus specifically on the spout‐fluid bed, the results collectively demonstrate that the presence of several inlets leads to significant interactions between chambers.…”

“…To overcome these issues, an alternative approach for scale‐up is to align multiple single‐chamber beds side‐by‐side to enable a larger operational capacity. Experimental and numerical efforts have focused on such a scale‐up approach for the conically spouted bed, annular spouted bed, rectangular spouted bed . However, reports on the scaling of the spout‐fluid bed are limited.…”

“…The results demonstrated that the lower emission of CO in the multiple-spouted bed can be obtained with under-bed feeding as compared with that of over-bed feeding of the rice husk fuel. Gong et al [10] conducted an experiment in a spouted bed with multiple air nozzles to study the particle hydrodynamics and the effect of air flow on the pressure drop of the multiple-spouted bed. The results illustrated that three distinct spouting stages can be observed with enlarging the gas hold-up.…”
