Hydrogen Sulfide Facilitates the Impaired Sensitivity of Carotid Sinus Baroreflex in Rats with Vascular Calcification

Abstract: Arterial baroreflex is a general mechanism maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis; its sensitivity is reduced in vascular calcification (VC). Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) treatment facilitates baroreflexive sensitivity in normal and hypertensive rats. Here, we aimed to detect the effect of H2S on baroreflexive sensitivity in rats with VC. The rat VC model was induced by vitamin D3 plus nicotine for 4 weeks. The sensitivity of baroreflex was detected by perfusing the isolated carotid sinus. VC was assessed by hematox… Show more

“…Consistent with previous research39, in the aorta of VDN challenged rats, positive TUNEL staining confirmed the apoptotic VSMCs in the aortas. Furthermore, the Western blot analysis showed a significant increase of ERS markers, GRP78, in the VDN model group.…”

“…Dihydrogen sulfide is also known as hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) or sulfane ( 91 , 92 ). H 2 S is considered to be an endogenously produced gasotransmitter that acts on various targeted signaling pathways to play an important role in vascular homeostasis ( 93 , 94 ). Downregulation of the CSE/H 2 S pathway has an important pathological role in the development of AS ( 95 ).…”

“…We speculated that the main function of physiological dose of H 2 S was to maintain homeostasis of body. That explained why physiological dose of H 2 S administration caused no obvious changes of cells and only the deficiency of H 2 S brought abnormal changes or elevated susceptibility to inflammation [49] .…”
