Hydrogeochemistry of Water Resources of Oka Municipality

Abstract: Abstract. The absence of Perennial River, semi-arid climatic condition and growing neediness of water increased the usage of water resources. In Oka municipality, all the water resources characters are sampled for its chemistry. Hydrochemistry of the water is influenced by geogenic and anthropogenic sources. Hence to assess the chemical characteristics of the water in the study area, a total of 20 water samples from different sources were collected and analyzed for physical parameters such as pH, conductivity … Show more

“…Vulnerability of natural sources of water such as lake, ocean and river, to pollutants and contaminants has made them not suitable for human consumption. As inaccessibility to safe and clean water continue to pose a serious danger to those living in a very complex terrain, groundwater provides a better clean water due to its natural microbiological and chemical qualities [4]. Groundwater is the water found beneath the ground surface most especially within the pore spaces or voids in the rock.…”

“…Its exploration and exploitation have continued to remain an important issue due to its unalloyed needs. Though there are other sources of water, like streams, rivers, ponds, etc., none is as hygienic as groundwater because groundwater has an excellent natural microbiological quality and generally adequate chemical quality for most uses (Okpoli 2017). To unravel the mystery of groundwater, a detailed geophysical and hydro-geological understanding of the aquifer types and their spatial distribution are paramount in order to characterise the hydraulic zones in an area.…”

“…It is essential for agriculture, industry and human existence. The healthy aquatic ecosystem depends on the physicochemical and biological characteristics [5]. The quality of water in any ecosystem provides significant information about the available resources for supporting life in that ecosystem.…”
