Hydrothermal characteristics of a double flow parabolic trough solar collector equipped with sinusoidal-wavy grooved absorber tube and twisted tape insert

Abstract: Purpose Present investigation conducts a study on the hydrothermal features of a double flow Parabolic Trough Solar Collector (PTSC) equipped with sinusoidal-wavy grooved absorber tube and twisted tape insert filled with nanofluid. This paper aims to present an effectual PTSC which is comprised by nanofluid numerically by means of finite volume method. Design/methodology/approach The beneficial results such as pressure drop inside the absorber tube, mean predicted friction factor, predicted average Nusselt n… Show more

“…The thermal device is thus contrived compactly and powerfully to deliver the desired thermal capacity. Crucial techniques for improving thermal performance include the active mechanism necessitating the additional power unit and the passive one, such as the twisted ribbon inserts not necessitating another supplemental one (Arani and Memarzadch, 2022; Mashayekhi et al , 2022). Contriving an original twisted ribbon to insert the round tubes inside a heat exchanger is thus beneficial for thermal science and is explicitly examined in this work.…”

“…A wavy tube with a sinusoidal wavy wall can be assumed as a smoothed version of a corrugated pipe to reduce the pressure loss due to its grooves. Several practical applications of corrugated and wavy tubes are reported in industrial heat exchangers, including chemical reactors, paint manufacturing, the food industries, marine and pharmaceuticals (Abbasian Arani and Memarzadeh, 2022; Saha et al , 2015; Li et al , 2023a). Fluid flow inside corrugated and wavy pipes is characterized by complex interactions between free shear layers, separated vortices and driving wall-bounded shear flow, which may increase the rate of heat transfer.…”
