Hydrothermal fabrication of natural sun light active Dy2WO6 doped ZnO and its enhanced photo-electrocatalytic activity and self-cleaning properties

Abstract: In this article we report the fabrication of 3 wt% Dy 2 WO 6 doped ZnO via a template-free hydrothermal process and its photocatalytic activity against azo dyes Rhodamine-B (Rh-B) and Trypan Blue (TB) in solar light irradiation. The as prepared Dy 2 WO 6 doped ZnO was characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM) field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),… Show more

“…The presence of Zn is observed from the two Zn 2p states as Zn 2P 3/2 and Zn 2P 1/2 corresponding to the energies of 1020.8 and 1043.8 eV. It also reveals that Zn is present only in 2 + oxidation state and it offers the possible bonding between Zn and O . The oxygen O 1s high‐resolution peak is deconvoluted into three peaks corresponding to the O 2− at 532.2 eV, OH − species at 533 eV and C−O‐O at 536 eV …”

“…Amongst ZnO and its family occupied the reasonable research space due to its overall advantageous characteristics over other materials ,. However, when it comes to the commercial implication, the robustness of ZnO needs to be enriched further . For example, the trap state (including interstitial and missing atoms/vacancy defect) assisted loss of excitons, which is common in oxide‐based semiconductors, need to be addressed properly .…”

“…The occurrence of Zn is seen from the two Zn 2p states as Zn 2P 3\2 and Zn 2P 1\2 corresponding to 1020.8 and 1043.8 eV respectively. It additionally uncovers that the Zn is available just in 2 + oxidation state which affirms the conceivable bonding between Zn and O [10]. The oxygen O 1s is deconvoluted into three peaks corresponding to the O 2À at 532.2 eV, OH À species at 533 eV and CdOdO at 536 eV, respectively [46].…”

“…Among the numerous photocatalytic materials, ZnO occupied the reasonable research area owing to its whole beneficial characteristics over other materials [8,9]. Even though, when it comes to commercial developments, the robustness of ZnO needs further developments [10]. Such as, the trapping state (including interstitial and missing atoms/vacancy defect) bolstered loss of excitons, which is basic in oxide-based semiconductors, should be tended to appropriately [11].…”

“…However, there still remains much room for investigating the elemental doping in hydrothermal nanowire synthesis. For example, the doping often accompanies the variations of anisotropic crystal growth of ZnO nanowires [32][33][34][35] and in other case, the metal impurities solely serve as counter ions rather than being incorporated into the nanowires 19,36 . These results plausibly originate from the variety of chemical reactions and electrostatic effects in the hydrothermal system 19,[37][38][39] , which are not seen in vapor-phase synthesis.…”
