“…The oil concentrates mainly on the water surface in the form of oil slicks. The area of the lake covered with oil slicks is ~1 km 2 , and it almost has not changed since the discovery of oil seep in 2005. From 2005 to 2019, the concentration of n-alkanes in the surface water ranged between 0.2 and 8.3 µg/L, with an average value of 3.6 µg/L.…”

“…The distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons in Baikal water from the site of deep seepage is limited, and water pollution is localised. The total concentrations of n-alkanes at the reference station (St.1, Ʃ alk ≤ 0.15 µg/L; Russell and Rosell-Mele, 2005;Gorshkov et al, 2010) are up to 35 times lower than the maximum Ʃalk concentrations found in the water column and on the water surface near Cape Gorevoy Utes. PAH concentrations in the surface water layer at sites without oil slicks on the surface and deep layers are comparable with Ʃ PAH concentrations at reference stations and in the pelagic zone (7.0-36 ng/L; Gorshkov et al, 2018).…”
