This was interpreted in that newly‐formed H‐bonds between both hydroxyl groups of DM and anions (Br − ) of BMIMBr and hydroxyl groups of PVA broke the original intra‐or intermolecular hydrogen bonds of PVA [20,30] . “…[13,14] Last but not least, PVA molecules possess a lot of hydroxyl groups to form both intraand intermolecular hydrogen bonds with amine or hydroxyl groups (or epoxy groups in our case), thus facilitating the compatibility between microcapsules and coating substrate to improve the dispersion of microcapsules into coating substrate. [15] As the aforementioned merits, this paper would suggest a new combination of reactants in the oil-inwater emulsion polymerization process to fabricate microcapsules, resulting in a higher core content to apply in self-healing epoxy coatings covering metals such as steel and iron.
