Hyperparathyroidism Secondary to Hypovitaminosis D in Hypoalbuminemic Is Less Intense than in Normoalbuminemic Patients: A Prevalence Study in Medical Inpatients in Southern Brazil

Abstract: Hypovitaminosis D prevalence was very high in medical inpatients in Southern Brazil, in early spring. Nevertheless, secondary hyperparathyroidism was less intense in hypoalbuminemic hypovitaminosis D patients suggesting that in these patients free serum 25(OH)D was closer to normal.

“…In two studies conducted in elderly patients living in the southeast of Brazil (latitude 20-30°S), a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was demonstrated (9)(10)(11)(12). Thus the aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and its relationship with BMD in postmenopausal women visiting an endocrine outpatient clinic in Recife, which is situated at 10 degrees of latitude south of the Equator.…”

3 Outros estudos no Brasil têm demonstrado valores semelhantes.
