The interviews were transcribed and coded to the various themes in NVivo using a hybrid approach. Results: The reasons and factors that influenced non-attendance and noncompletion at cardiac rehabilitation were found to overlap and were categorized into three major themes; Physical, Psychological and Organizational. Further exploration of the physical theme revealed that these reasons and factors could be categorized into health reasons, access difficulties and difficulties with exercise. The main physical reasons and factors were classified as depression, issues relating to oneself and stress. The main organizational reasons and factors were; education, issues with the cardiac rehabilitation programme itself, the health system and work issues. Recommondations for practice: particular attention should be given at the recruitment stage to patients who were identified in the study as thos most likly not to attend or complete: smokers, non-skilled mannual workers, those with depression and other co-morbidities, those with difficulties exercising and those with a low level of education.
